Geely, AutoNavi step up cooperation on HD map
Chinese location-based services provider AutoNavi and automaker Geely have cemented their partnership in high-definition map (HD map) area, according to Liu Zhenfei, president of AutoNavi.
Liu Zhenfei said at the 2018 Alibaba Investor Day that AutoNavi has been focusing on developing HD map business in a bid to provide infrastructures for vehicle intelligentization. It is willing to work with Geely, one of the leading automakers in China's self-owned car brand, to boost the intelligent car development.
Geely Auto launched its “four-step” autonomous driving strategy dubbed G-Pilot on May 10 last year. The automaker is currently committed to developing G-pilot 3.0-level autonomous driving platform, which is able to release drivers from driving operations. The G-Pilot 4.0, the highest level for Geely's autonomous driving technical route, will offer comprehensive mobility services, integrating autonomous driving technologies with mobility algorithm and logic. HD map is indispensable to fully achieve the G-Pilot strategy, which is why Geely decided to cooperate with AutoNavi.
AutoNavi's latest car-borne mapping system will be installed across the entire lineup of Geely Auto's vehicles. The mapping system provides navigation services which are available for various driving scenarios, boasting such functions as presentation of real-time road condition, congestion avoidance, traffic accident checking and connectivity with mobile phones, etc.
AutoNavi had formed strategic partnership with Geely Auto as early as December 3, 2015. The web mapping provider announced on March this year that it will join force with Geely Auto to explore such fields as on-board navigation system, location-based service and transportation big data, etc.
